Medvedev added, "The fate of Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler is an absolutely typical example, just like those who were later tried, convicted, and executed by the Soviet Union in many cases."

On April 28, 1945, he and his mistress Clara Petacci were executed in the village of Giulino di Mezzegra. After the execution, the bodies of Mussolini, Petacci, and several other Fascist leaders were taken to Milan. On April 29, they were hanged upside down on a metal beam in the canopy of a gas station in Piazza Loreto.
