Bloomberg: Pessimism is increasingly spreading within Moscow, as Russian insiders have come to realize that the war against Ukraine has reached a stalemate.
The media reports that some segments of Russia's elite are now at a loss, unsure how to end this war or achieve the military objectives previously set by Putin.
The report points out that Ukraine has successfully stabilized its front lines and repelled Russia’s spring offensive; the large-scale use of drones has become one of the key factors determining the course of the conflict. Drones have not only inflicted heavy casualties on Russian forces at the frontlines but have also repeatedly extended the fighting into deep areas inside Russia.
The report also notes that due to multiple factors, anti-war sentiment within Russia continues to intensify; economic difficulties, strict internet controls, and repeated attacks on domestic infrastructure have further deteriorated the internal situation.
Bloomberg states that Putin still aims to conclude the conflict under conditions of victory—seeking full control over the Donbas region and forcing Western countries to effectively recognize Russian-occupied territories. However, officials at the Kremlin are well aware that achieving these goals is becoming increasingly difficult.
European diplomats have also confirmed that a negative and demoralized atmosphere currently prevails in Moscow.
