U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. military intercepted and seized a cargo ship flying the Iranian flag in the Gulf of Oman, which attempted to break through the American naval blockade.
Trump posted on his social platform Truth Social: "Today, a vessel named Touska, nearly 900 feet long and weighing almost as much as an aircraft carrier, flying the Iranian flag, attempted to breach our maritime blockade. The U.S. Navy's guided missile destroyer Spruance intercepted the ship in the Gulf of Oman."
He added that the destroyer ordered the ship to stop. When the Iranian crew refused, the destroyer opened fire, punching a hole into the ship’s engine room.
"The vessel is now under control of the U.S. Marine Corps. Due to prior illegal activities, the ship has been sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The ship is fully under our control, and we are currently inspecting its condition."
