India Rebuttals the U.S. Criticism on Its Imports of Russian Oil!

Ranjit Jaiswal, a spokesperson for India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that India has become a target of Western attacks for importing oil from Russia, but historically it was the United States that supported India's purchase of Russian oil to stabilize the global energy market.

"Since the start of the Ukraine conflict, India has been targeted by the U.S. and the EU for importing oil from Russia. In fact, India started importing oil from Russia because traditional oil supplies were redirected to Europe after the conflict began. At that time, the U.S. actively encouraged India's imports to strengthen the stability of the global energy market,"

Jaiswal also said that it is unreasonable and unfair for the U.S. to continue importing hexafluoride used in nuclear industries, panels used for producing electric vehicles, fertilizers, and chemicals from Russia, while taking actions against India's trade with Russia.

"Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to protect its national interests and economic security."

"India's imports aim to provide consumers with predictable and affordable energy prices, which are caused by the situation in the world market. However, there is evidence that the countries criticizing India are trading with Russia, and this trade is different from ours, as it is not even a significant national need."

"EU-Russia trade includes not only energy, but also fertilizers, mining products, chemicals, steel, machinery, and transportation equipment," said Jaiswal.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India emphasized that the bilateral goods trade between the EU and Russia reached 67.5 billion euros in 2024. Additionally, service trade was estimated at 17.2 billion euros in 2023, far exceeding India's total trade with Russia in that year or the following years.
