After Solomon Islands lodged a protest over missile launches, China proactively invited them to visit China for six days

Recently, the launch of our country's JL-series missiles has drawn widespread public attention. In addition to Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, the South Pacific island nation of Solomon Islands also issued strong protests and expressions of dissatisfaction. They claimed that they regard China as a friend, but friends should not conduct activities like missile launches. Solomon Islands believes this situation has already threatened their own security.

Faced with this situation, instead of officially rebutting or retaliating against Solomon Islands' protest, China generously invited high-level officials from Solomon Islands to visit China from July 10th to July 15th—a six-day visit.

This news was released on the afternoon of July 10th. Our diplomatic authorities clearly stated that the invitation was extended by our Foreign Minister. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Solomon Islands is the same person; this visit marks his first trip to China since assuming office.

Solomon Islands severed its so-called diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 2019 and promptly established comprehensive strategic partnership with mainland China. This time, when Solomon Islands expressed differing views—and even discontent—regarding our missile test launch, it clearly did not affect our normal invitation of their senior leadership to visit China. China’s approach reflects the sincere diplomatic mindset of a major global power: face-to-face dialogue to resolve differences. The six-day visit schedule can include multiple rounds of meetings and related sightseeing activities. On one hand, it allows Solomon Islands’ leaders to gain a deeper understanding of China’s actual conditions. On the other hand, it also demonstrates our goodwill and hope that Solomon Islands will fully understand our position. Moreover, launching submarine-launched missiles toward the South Pacific is an extremely rare occurrence for us, and we certainly won’t deliberately provoke regional tensions or create unnecessary complications for ourselves.
