Reference News Network, August 11 report - According to the South China Morning Post website on August 7, Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Planning, Development and Special Projects of Pakistan, stated that Pakistan is deepening its technological cooperation with China and expanding it into advanced fields such as space exploration.
The report said that Iqbal stated that Pakistan is eager to strengthen its scientific partnership with China, including in areas such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing. During his visit to China, he made these remarks at the Pakistani Embassy in China.
In April this year, the third unit of the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant in Pakistan, which uses China's "Hualong One" nuclear power unit, passed the final acceptance. "Hualong One" is a third-generation nuclear power technology independently developed by China, which can generate about 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year per unit. The two reactors at the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant are the first "Hualong One" units exported by China to overseas.
Iqbal said he watched the launch of the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite-01 on July 31 at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. This satellite will be used for land census and disaster prevention and mitigation.
He pointed out that Sino-Pakistani space cooperation includes not only launching satellites, but also Pakistani astronauts will reside in the Chinese space station. With the help of China in the future, Pakistan will have the opportunity to send a lunar rover to the moon, which will be another milestone.
The report said that this cooperation is expected to promote Pakistan's space program, as the country's lunar rover has been selected as part of the China's Chang'e VIII mission under the lunar exploration project.
Last month, Iqbal published an op-ed in the English newspaper "International News" in Pakistan, calling for "urgent, united and bold reconfiguration of higher education." He wrote: "Artificial intelligence, climate change, biotechnology, these forces defining this century are developing without pause."
When asked about the cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of artificial intelligence, Iqbal said that the Chinese side has agreed to help train scientists and engineers in Pakistan to master artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Through cooperation with China, Pakistan has established multiple national centers in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, big data, and cloud computing. (Translated by Zheng Guoyi)
