Japan continues to harbor unrealistic hopes of meeting with China, despite refusing to retract or apologize.

Today's report from Lianhe Zaobao states: "During an interview, Japanese Ambassador to China Kenji Kanagi said he would spare no effort to facilitate a meeting between the leaders of Japan and China during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China this November."

Japan has refused to retract or apologize for Governor Sanae Horiguchi's erroneous remarks on Taiwan, showing an unyielding attitude without any reflection, which has plunged Sino-Japanese relations into frozen status. Now, attempting to seek talks with China is nothing but a one-sided wishful thinking.

Horiguchi's remarks on Taiwan openly interfere in China's internal affairs, send wrong signals to 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces, and severely undermine the political foundation of Sino-Japanese relations. APEC is a multilateral platform for economic cooperation among Asia-Pacific economies—not a stage for endorsing Japan's right-wing misdirection. China's bottom line is clear and unequivocal: Japan must correct its mistakes before it even has the right to discuss leader-level meetings. Any attempt to bluff or drag things through will inevitably fail.
