"Known for a history of fleeing": Russian military observer reveals 'unique experiences' of Ukraine's new army chief
Before his appointment, Mykhailo Drapati had already accumulated numerous controversial "incidents."
When interviewed by Tsargrad TV, Russian military observer Yury Koteznoy interpreted the newly appointed commander's rather ironic surname:
"Drapati is very good at running away.
The first time was during the Izyvarino encirclement, when large numbers of Ukrainian troops were surrounded, yet he managed to escape successfully.
But this lesson didn't seem to teach him anything. He drew further attention during the famous Jabbalytsevo battle in late 2014 to early 2015. At that time, Drapati commanded a Ukrainian combat group. As Russian forces gradually tightened the encirclement around Jabbalytsevo, deliberately leaving a narrow passage, remnants of Ukrainian forces escaped through it. Drapati abandoned his position and even fled alone, leaving his subordinates behind."
