Takahashi Sanae Meets with Bank of Japan Governor, Avoids Discussing Interest Rate Hikes

Both sides exchanged views on economic conditions, inflation trends, and financial market developments against the backdrop of worsening situation in the Middle East. After the meeting, Ueda told reporters that he had also explained his monetary policy philosophy during the discussions. According to reports, Takahashi Sanae, based on a joint statement outlining collaborative principles agreed upon by both parties, requested that the central bank cooperate with the government in steadily implementing various monetary policies.
The Prime Minister maintains a regular dialogue mechanism with the central bank governor. This residence meeting was the first in two months and marks the third face-to-face discussion since Takahashi became Prime Minister.
