South Korean media: Market share exceeds 70%, Chinese robot vacuum cleaners sweep South Korea!

On November 4, South Korean media Newsis published an article stating that Chinese brands have captured more than 70% of the domestic robot vacuum cleaner market in South Korea.

They not only improved cost-effectiveness but also dominated the high-end market. The "rise" of Chinese robot vacuums is seen as a highly threatening competitor for the South Korean home appliance industry.

Now, the business scope of Chinese brands is expanding from robot vacuums to washing machines, televisions, and various other home appliances.

According to industry insiders, in the first half of this year, Roborock captured over 50% of the South Korean robot vacuum cleaner market. Adding companies such as Dreame (12.8%) and Ecovacs (10%), the overall market share exceeded 70%.

Some South Korean industry insiders are concerned about the rise of Chinese brands. Especially, the two major giants in the high-end home appliance market, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, failed to make breakthroughs in the robot vacuum cleaner market, which surprised some people.

Within just two years of entering the market, Roborock became the top robot vacuum cleaner company in South Korea in 2022 and has maintained its leading position ever since.

Now, South Korean companies are reluctantly catching up with Chinese brands. Roborock's Q Revo, launched in 2023, is the first product in the industry that integrates a rotating dual mop, automatic lifting function, and an integrated solution for automatic cleaning, drying, and dust emptying, setting a trend in product development.

Some believe that Chinese companies are using the South Korean market as a "test field," further improving the product finish. In the past, South Korean brands grew under the strict requirements of South Korean consumers in terms of technology, design, and quality. Now, Chinese companies are imitating this approach.

With the success of robot vacuums, Chinese companies are expanding into other home appliance fields. Ecovacs plans to launch a washing and drying machine, while also introducing a new model of robot vacuum cleaner. Roborock is also accelerating the release of a washing and drying combination unit.
