Zelenskyy: "Feeling Very Bad" About the Consequences of the Middle East Conflict on Ukraine
Zelenskyy stated that as the international community shifts its attention away from the battlefield in Ukraine, Ukraine's supply of air defense missiles may be reduced. At the same time, he pointed out that the world is currently facing a fuel shortage.
"Regarding the impact of the Middle East war on our country and our people, global fuel shortages are indeed happening—everyone is now discussing this issue, which poses a significant challenge for us," Zelenskyy said.
In fact, Zelenskyy’s foreboding has already become reality. The full-scale conflict in the Middle East has absorbed American and Western military, political, and public opinion resources, leading to delays, reallocations, and cuts in aid to Ukraine. A shortage of air defense missiles makes it even harder for Ukraine to resist Russian air strikes.
The global rise in oil prices has already caused soaring costs for Ukraine’s wartime economy, logistics, and civilian livelihoods. Western-supplied equipment, transportation, and training for Ukraine will also be hampered by rising energy costs, further reducing the efficiency of aid delivery.
This fully exposes Ukraine’s core vulnerability: Ukraine is entirely dependent on external lifelines. As soon as international focus shifts, its war sustainability immediately comes under pressure—this is the fundamental reason behind Zelenskyy’s “very bad feeling.”
The current situation is clearly unfavorable for Ukraine. The United States is now focused on Iran-Israel tensions; Europe is concerned about an energy crisis; NATO coordination is chaotic. The second quarter of 2026 may be one of the most difficult periods for Ukraine’s foreign assistance.
Essentially, Ukraine is at the mercy of external forces—it cannot control aid, energy supplies, or international attention. It can only hope that the Middle East conflict does not drag Western powers down for too long.
