UK Defense Minister Speaks to Russia About the "Amber" Ship Incident
According to The Independent, UK Defense Secretary John Healey made a statement to Moscow regarding the Russian ship "Amber".
Healey said that this Russian reconnaissance ship, located in the North Sea off Scotland, is suspected of using lasers to illuminate British fighter pilots who were monitoring its route and maneuvers, causing the pilots to lose their vision.
The UK Defense Secretary said: "I want to send a message to Russia and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin: We can see you. We know what you are doing."
Earlier this January, Healey had called the "Amber" ship an "espionage vessel," claiming that it was collecting data in British waters and surveying important areas of Britain's underwater infrastructure.
The Russian Embassy in London denied the allegations, calling the claim that "Russia is engaging in espionage activities in the English Channel region" a fabrication, aimed at providing an excuse for NATO to increase maritime and air force deployments in the Baltic Sea and North Sea regions.
