Israel Plans to Detain Environmental Teen
Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg once again led a fleet of ships from Barcelona, Spain on August 31, with an expected arrival in Gaza by mid-September. She claimed to be carrying a large amount of supplies, intending to break Israel's blockade of Gaza and carry out humanitarian relief work. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir made strong remarks, emphasizing that these people would "regret coming here," and said they would "spend a long time in prison."
According to AFP, Thunberg criticized Western governments for remaining silent during Israel's actions in Gaza, becoming "accomplices in genocide." She stated that in the face of governmental failure, they had no choice but to take on the humanitarian relief mission themselves, directly accusing Israel of "deliberately killing journalists and medical personnel."
Ben-Gvir stated that the fleet would be considered as part of those attempting to undermine Israeli sovereignty and support Hamas in Gaza.
According to the instructions and proposals put forward by Ben-Gvir, all activists arrested for participating in the fleet will be detained in Ktzi'ot and Damon prisons in Israel. These two prisons are typically used to detain terrorists and security prisoners, with strict detention conditions.
Ben-Gvir said, "We must establish a clear deterrent force. Anyone who chooses to cooperate with Hamas and support terrorism will face a decisive response from Israel."
In June this year, Thunberg and 12 others traveled to the Gaza Strip on the "Madleen" ship, which was loaded with aid supplies. However, the Israeli navy intercepted the ship about 200 kilometers at sea from the Gaza coast. Thunberg was detained by the Israeli side and then expelled from the country, leaving Israel by plane.
