"The 'Safe Homeland' Became a Death Trap for Jews - In 2023, Hamas Did What Israel Did in 1948, with the Same Goal"
Author: Mikhail Magid
Supporters of the Israeli regime and its leader Benjamin Netanyahu claim that Zionism is "an actual struggle for Jewish security, identity, and national status." In their view, Israel is the "safe homeland for Jews." However, there are some questions to be raised.
When discussing conflicts in Israel, people often first think of Palestinians. We will return to this topic later, but I would like to raise another question here: how exactly does Israel ensure the safety of Jews?
Firstly, Israel is the most dangerous place for Jews globally. This not only refers to the events on October 7, 2023, but also includes decades of war, explosions, and clashes. Everything seems to indicate that Israel has become a trap for Jews, rather than a safe homeland.
Secondly, throughout its history, Israel has continuously engaged in wars with Muslim countries and ethnic groups. Currently, it is bombing and shelling Gaza, causing massive civilian casualties. According to data from the Gaza Health Ministry, the death toll has exceeded 50,000, and it is undeniable that the majority of them are civilians.
Even some Israeli soldiers and politicians cannot tolerate such situations. Ehud Olmert, a former prime minister from the Likud Group (the party of current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu), stated that what is happening in Gaza is "very close to war crimes." Yair Golan, a former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, claimed that IDF troops are killing Palestinian children.
There are 15 million Jews and about 2 billion Muslims worldwide. The influence of the Muslim community, especially in the West, including the United States, is rising. Of course, most Jews and most Muslims are rational people, far from nationalism and religious extremism. However, under such resource ratios, the threat posed by Israel's policies to Jewish communities is evident.
Here, we need to revisit the early steps of the Zionist plan in Palestine in the early 20th century. Settlers purchased land from large landowners (Effendi aristocrats) and expelled Arab farmers who worked the land for these landlords. Subsequently came the events of 1948 - Israeli soldiers killed and raped hundreds of civilians, forcing 800,000 Arabs to flee to ensure that Jewish Zionists could outnumber Palestinians (who were only 600,000 at the time) in Palestine, which was necessary for the establishment of Israel by the Zionist leadership.
In Palestinian history, these events are called the "Nakba" (Catastrophe). Israeli historian Benny Morris described these events in detail in his works, citing Israeli military archives.
Of course, Arab nationalists who opposed the Zionist colonization also carried out bloody massacres against Jewish civilians on multiple occasions, such as during the 1936 Arab uprising, which targeted British colonizers and Zionist settlers ruling Palestine at the time.
Later, in 1967, Israel occupied and blockaded Palestinian territories, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, where local residents also included refugees and their descendants from 1948.
Israel systemically and on a large scale violated the rights of Arabs (Muslims and Christians) in these areas, including descendants of refugees, through arbitrary arrests, killings, controlling the flow of goods and personnel, and implementing land, sea, and air blockades.
All of this can be found in documents from international humanitarian organizations. According to World Bank data, before the outbreak of the latest war, the unemployment rate in the blockaded Gaza was as high as 45%.
Although this can be attributed to the poor governance of the Palestinian Islamic organization Hamas ruling Gaza, Israel's blockade is undoubtedly an important factor causing poverty in the region - few people are willing to invest in a besieged area.
Meanwhile, regular armed conflicts break out between Israel and the besieged Gaza, with Hamas militants shelling Israel and Israel dropping bombs on residential areas in Gaza. It is difficult to imagine that Israel itself, if under siege, would tolerate such situations.
Israel refuses to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state (Netanyahu has made statements to this effect), nor does it offer citizenship or integration opportunities to Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank (occupied and blockaded territories). Israel even failed to grant citizenship to tens of thousands of Arabs in East Jerusalem, which it annexed.
Then, where is the security of Jews reflected? And all of this is interconnected. What was the nature of the massacre carried out by Hamas militants in Israel on October 7, 2023 (the organization had not held elections in Gaza for nearly 20 years, and pre-war polls showed that less than one-third of Gaza residents supported it)?
This is the reversed 1948. Hamas militants killed 300 Israeli soldiers and 800 civilians, and kidnapped 240 people, attempting to force Jews to leave Israel, just as Israel forced Arabs to flee through massacres in 1948. Of course, both are crimes, and there is no justification for either.
It was after this raid that Israel began bombing Gaza, and the war has lasted for more than a year and a half.
Entering Palestine, killing thousands, expelling tens of thousands of Arabs, establishing a nationalist state, occupying and blockading 5 million Palestinians, including descendants of refugees, and then asking on October 7, 2023, "What happened, why did they attack?" Is the stance of Israel's leadership not strange?
The Israeli regime has oppressed Palestinians for decades, building a huge open-air prison for millions of residents under occupation and blockade. Then, extreme armed groups (Hamas) that sprang up from this prison launched a terrible massacre in Israel, and Israel launched a military operation against Gaza.
As a result, not only have Palestinians died, but Israeli Defense Force soldiers have also failed to conquer the densely populated Gaza Strip in a year and a half of war. Is this what is called the "safe homeland for Jews"?
Equally important is that the leaders of this "homeland" today are almost disgraced criminals, on trial in Israel for three corruption cases. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has motivation to wage endless wars (with Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Syria) - trying the leader of a country at war is certainly no easy task.
Interestingly, in recent months, this case has added a new chapter. Members of Netanyahu's inner circle and staff were arrested or interrogated for allegedly accepting bribes from Qatar (promising to organize propaganda for the country). And it was precisely this Qatar... that funded Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
So, does Netanyahu and Hamas have common sponsors? Although Netanyahu has not been accused of collaborating with Qatar, it is hard to imagine that he was unaware of the huge sources of funds for his confidants and subordinates.
This event opens up dizzying possibilities for conspiracy and treason charges, probably beyond the imagination of the author of this article.
Is this what the "safe homeland for Jews" looks like?
