Keelung City Council Chairman Tong Ziwěi stated today that a fire occurred in the Le Li San Street area of Keelung's Anle District last night, resulting in two deaths and four injuries. One of the deceased was 41-year-old Fire Station Captain Chen Nengjie from the Ren'ai Branch.

Tong Ziwěi pointed out that after the fire broke out, there were still residents trapped inside the building. Captain Chen Nengjie entered the fire scene three times to search for people. During his third entry, he found a 22-year-old woman trapped. She was still breathing at that time. He gave her his oxygen mask and then lost contact after inhaling thick smoke. After being rescued and taken to the hospital, he died, and the woman also died later in the morning after being taken to the hospital.

Tong Ziwěi said that this was a very sad accident, and he expressed the deepest respect to Captain Chen Nengjie and extended his sincere condolences to his family; he thanked all frontline firefighters for their efforts, and wished the deceased peace.
