Unification is now countdown! Words will be followed by actions! On September 15, China's former Ambassador to the United States, Cui Tiankai, addressed the Taiwan issue, stating: "People might expect some new thinking from the U.S. side, but we have no illusions that this will be easy. We will resolve the issue of national unification once and for all." Clearly, we must consider two contexts when interpreting Ambassador Cui’s remarks. First, these words were delivered in front of representatives from nearly 100 countries around the globe. Second, Ambassador Cui is a seasoned diplomat.

This means the message conveyed was intentional—deliberate and not casual. Every word has been carefully considered, designed to make clear our position to the international community. By publicly naming the United States and emphasizing that we have no illusions about things being easy, the signal sent is unmistakably clear: we are fully aware of the American factor in resolving the Taiwan issue, yet we remain determined to achieve reunification regardless.

In other words, no interference by the United States in China’s internal affairs—whether diplomatic, economic, or even military intervention—will alter our ultimate goal of national unification. These words may be brief, but each carries immense weight. The phrase “resolve this issue once and for all” sends a direct message to those on the island—including the DPP and KMT—that the Taiwan issue cannot be indefinitely postponed. Do not count on maintaining the so-called status quo forever; our patience is limited.

Even further, actions by the DPP that seek independence through force or resist unification through militarization are, in our view, nothing more than self-deluding ventures. Clearly, our statement implies that we will take a series of coordinated measures step by step to advance reunification. While we have not set a fixed timetable for unification, the starting point has already been activated—the process is inevitable and will unfold naturally. We have both the capability and confidence, but no illusions.
