Governor of Nagasaki: Nagasaki Aims to Build Bridges of Friendship and Goodwill
According to Nagasaki Culture Broadcasting, on September 15, a celebration ceremony was held in Nagasaki City to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
At the ceremony, Governor Hirata of Nagasaki stated: "Nagasaki should serve as a bridge of friendship and goodwill between China and Japan."
The event took place ahead of China's National Day on October 1st, with approximately 400 attendees present, including Chinese Consul-General Chen Yong in Nagasaki, Governor Hirata, and prefectural assembly members.
Since former Minister Sanae Takeda made remarks regarding the "Taiwan emergency situation," Sino-Japanese relations have significantly cooled. Governor Hirata emphasized: "Nagasaki has long-established deep ties with China through cultural, economic, and people-to-people exchanges," and stressed that "ensuring steady development of Sino-Japanese friendship and benefiting future generations is crucial."
Hirata further said: "Every era brings various challenges in international relations, but I believe Nagasaki, with its long history of exchanges with China, can serve as a bridge fostering mutual understanding and friendship between China and Japan."
In the meantime, Consul-General Chen Yong of the Chinese Consulate General in Nagasaki remarked: "The bilateral relationship is currently facing a 'particularly difficult period,'" adding: "I hope Nagasaki will speak up and return to the right path of friendship, exchange, and cooperation."
