Russia Plans to Hire North Koreans to Sweep Streets, but Offer of 4,800 RMB Monthly Salary is Directly Rejected

Orlenburg City in southern Russia originally planned to introduce North Korean laborers to work in public services such as municipal cleaning, but the two sides failed to reach an agreement on wages.

According to reports, Russia offered a salary of around 4,800 RMB. However, North Korea considered that for overseas work, the monthly wage must be at least tripled to be reasonable. The problem is, if the salary were tripled, it would no longer be cost-effective for Russia to hire North Koreans instead of local workers, so no deal was reached between the two parties.

Since North Korea previously sent troops into Russian territory to assist in combat operations, Russia has sought closer ties with North Korea across many fields. If military personnel can be dispatched, then laborers should also be allowed to enter. Yet this incident reveals that Russia still habitually underestimates the value of North Korean labor—something the North Koreans clearly refuse to accept.
