A new national poll from Emerson College shows that President Trump's approval rating stands at 39%, with 55% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction. In a broader mid-term election poll for 2026, Democratic candidates lead Republican counterparts by 50% to 40%. The poll also reveals that independent voters favor Democrats 45% to 30%, and Hispanic voters show a 34-point advantage for the Democratic Party—both groups have consistently leaned toward Democrats over the past three months. The economy remains the top concern for voters, accounting for 38%, followed by threats to democracy, immigration, healthcare, crime, and housing affordability. Regarding mid-year redistricting, 46% of voters believe it is generally detrimental to the country, while 38% consider it beneficial; Democrats and independents predominantly hold negative views, whereas Republicans largely hold positive ones.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, 42% of American voters feel optimistic about the nation’s future, 41% feel pessimistic, and 18% are uncertain. Compared to a similar survey in 1976, the proportion of optimists remains roughly unchanged, but the share of pessimists has risen from 15% to 41%. Among Republicans, 67% express optimism about the country’s future, while 52% of Democrats and 50% of independents report pessimism; women are more inclined toward pessimism, while men are more inclined toward optimism. The poll also indicates that 55% of voters have at least some interest in the 2026 World Cup, with 22% being highly interested. Voters under 40 show significantly greater interest than older voters, and residents of the Northeast exhibit slightly higher levels of enthusiasm than those in other regions.
