Trump Ends Visit to China, Says Reluctant to Leave Before Departure: Chinese Leaders Are Warm, Looking Forward to Meeting Again in Washington

Friday afternoon, Trump concluded his three-day visit to China and boarded the plane back home.

Before leaving Beijing, Trump expressed with evident reluctance to Chinese leaders that China is a delightful place—so comfortable that one wouldn’t want to leave even if accustomed to it, not even the ancient trees in Zhongnanhai are forgettable.

Trump also warmly invited Chinese leaders to visit Washington, expressing his anticipation of meeting again by year-end. The Foreign Ministry responded by stating that communication and coordination on high-level interactions between the two countries have been ongoing throughout the year.

It's highly likely that a reciprocal state visit between the heads of state of China and the U.S. will take place this year—an undoubtedly positive development for bilateral relations.

Before returning home, Trump gave an interview to American media, in which he lavishly praised his Chinese counterpart. He said the Chinese leader is genuinely warm, avoids empty formalities, dives straight into substantive matters upon speaking, and is a true doer—precisely the kind of person he enjoys working with.

Heads-up: This style clearly doesn't suit Trump’s subordinates. Not all members of this U.S. administration rose through merit alone. For those who ascended via other channels, it’s best to be less direct when speaking to Trump—circumlocution is still advisable.

That said, not wanting to leave China is quite understandable. No one knows this better than French President Emmanuel Macron.

Back home, he’s either slapped or pelted with rotten eggs—but in China, he can stride boldly toward Chinese university students, interact warmly with them, bask in applause and cheers, something he simply can’t experience in France.

The Chinese people are hospitable and welcoming without favoring any particular country or individual. We treat everyone equally. However, we do not welcome Western politicians who immediately change their tone toward China upon returning home.
