United Nations: Middle East Attacks Risk Getting Out of Control
Middle East - The UN Secretary-General warned that "illegal" attacks in the Middle East risk getting out of control. The UN also called on the United States to conduct an investigation into the explosion at Iranian schools in a "rapid" and "transparent" manner. Neither the US nor Israel has confirmed the attack. Israel announced that it had launched attacks on 400 targets inside Iran.
Iran announced late Friday that it would again launch drones and missiles toward Israel. Iran's state television announced that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is launching drones and missiles toward "occupied territories (Israel, which Iran does not recognize) and U.S. bases in the region."
The Israeli military insisted on Friday that its targets in the war against Iran were "limited to military objectives." Previously, Tehran reported that U.S.-Israeli air strikes on Iran caused damage to civilian infrastructure. Iran's official spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani: U.S.-Israeli air strikes on Iran caused damage to civilian infrastructure.
According to the Iranian Mehr News Agency, Iran's government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Friday that since February 28, "390 residential areas, 528 commercial premises, and 13 medical facilities (including nine Red Crescent centers) have been attacked." Several Iranian media outlets aired videos reportedly showing attacks on residential areas in Ilam city, the capital of western Iran's Ilam province, as well as two areas within the Israeli military combat zone in Tehran.
AFP could not independently verify these images.
Colonel Nadav Shoshani, the Israeli military's spokesperson for international affairs, said during an online briefing when answering questions: "I can tell you clearly that we only target military objectives, which complies with international law."
He added, "It is important to maintain a critical mindset towards information coming from Iran." A AFP photographer took a photo on Friday at the large Azadi Sports Complex in western Tehran showing a building severely damaged after an air strike. When AFP contacted Colonel Shoshani, he said he was unaware of the incident and stated he would investigate it.
