China to Build Copper Smelting Plant in Mongolia
Mongol News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, June 11 — According to a government press release, the government's regular meeting held on June 10 discussed and resolved the following issues.
The investor and co-construction partner for the copper concentrate smelting and processing plant project, based on the state-owned enterprise "Erdenet Mining," has been selected.
A total of 13 companies and consortia from seven countries submitted proposals. After a two-stage selection process, "NFC Company (China Nonferrous Group)" received the highest score and has been confirmed as the investment and co-construction enterprise for this project.
The company has previously participated in the design and construction of 35% of global copper smelters and 70% of China's copper smelters, and possesses extensive experience in mining development, engineering design, investment, mining, processing, operations, and EPC general contracting.
Mongolia has long relied on exporting copper concentrates. Constructing a copper concentrate smelting and deep-processing plant is considered a key project to enhance the added value of mineral products, increase export revenues, and boost fiscal income. Upon completion, the project is expected to drive Mongolia’s mineral industry from raw material exports toward deep processing, while also promoting employment, tax revenue, and the development of related industries.
