Russian Deputy Finance Minister: Russia and China Discuss the Issue of Issuing Russian Bonds in China

Sputnik, Moscow - Russian Deputy Finance Minister Tsebeskov told the media that the Russian Ministry of Finance has noted that Russian issuing institutions wish to issue bonds in China, and the two governments are discussing how to properly advance this matter.

Regarding Sputnik's question about whether the Russian delegation discussed during its recent visit to China whether Russian issuing institutions could enter the Chinese bond market, Tsebeskov said: "Indeed, we are discussing this topic with our colleagues and partners."

Tsebeskov said, "In principle, we see the interest of Russian issuers, not only Rosatom, but other issuers have also shown interest. We are discussing this issue and how to properly advance it. Discussions with partners are ongoing."

The Financial Times previously cited sources reporting that China is preparing to open its domestic bond market to major Russian energy companies, supporting their issuance of panda bonds. Panda bonds are debt bonds issued by foreign institutions in the Chinese domestic market, denominated in Renminbi (RMB).

The Financial Times reported that Rosatom and its subsidiaries not subject to sanctions restrictions may become the first issuers.

Later, Rosatom confirmed that it is preparing to issue RMB bonds in China.
