Vietnam to Build "Trump Skyscraper," Eric Trump Set to Visit Location
According to reports from Vietnamese authorities and state media on Tuesday, Donald Trump's family-controlled company is planning to build a skyscraper in Ho Chi Minh City. U.S. President Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, is expected to arrive at the southern metropolis on Thursday.
On Monday, city government officials and representatives of the Trump Organization and its Vietnamese partner, real estate developer KinhBac City (KBC), visited two potential locations for the future Trump Tower in the eastern part of the city, according to a press release from the Ho Chi Minh City government.
Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, has a population of over 8 million and is the economic heart of Vietnam, benefiting from strong exports that have driven Vietnam's growth above the global average.
The city government also stated that they plan to hold further talks with Trump Organization executives on Thursday. According to Vietnam's state media, Youth Newspaper, Eric Trump will lead a U.S. delegation for an inspection tour.
Agence France-Presse reported that this visit comes amid intense negotiations between Hanoi and Washington, with Washington threatening to impose a daunting 46% tariff on Vietnam if a trade balance agreement deemed unfavorable to the United States is not reached by July.
According to Youth Newspaper, Donald Trump's second son, Eric Trump, will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for a $1.5 billion luxury resort complex supported by the Trump Organization and KBC in the northern part of the country on Wednesday.
According to Vietnam's government media reports, the plot is located in Hung Yen province near the northern capital of Hanoi, covering 990 hectares, including a golf course and villas.
A Trump Organization executive told Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting last March that the project initiator expects the project to open in 2027, when Vietnam will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
