New milestone: Yesterday, SpaceX launched the 10,000th active Starlink satellite into orbit!

March 17, Space News report from the United States.

This milestone was achieved in the first of two Falcon 9 launches on March 17.

After nearly seven years of building its low Earth orbit broadband constellation, SpaceX now has more than 10,000 active Starlink satellites orbiting the Earth.

The company launched two batches of new internet relay units on March 17, totaling 54 satellites.

The milestone 10,000th Starlink satellite was carried on the first Falcon 9 rocket, which successfully launched 25 satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The second launch added another 29 satellites, launched from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Base in Florida.

The Starlink mega-constellation currently has 10,049 satellites, according to satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell, but 10 are in a faulty state.

Since May 2019, 1,509 Starlink satellites have re-entered the Earth's atmosphere and been destroyed.

Internet user George is proud: Deserved pride. Saving lives and helping people communicate.

skiyourbrain is worried: They must be very pleased... with 10,000 satellites, but due to the accelerating orbital decay of Starlink, they will need 10,000 replacement satellites...
