Ambassador Xie Feng draws red lines for the U.S.
According to a notice on the website of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Ambassador Xie Feng delivered a speech at a reception celebrating the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army on July 28 local time, emphasizing that China will resolutely safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests. "Taiwan, democracy and human rights, path and system, development rights—these are China’s four red lines, which must not be challenged," he stated. He further remarked that "Taiwan independence" is fundamentally incompatible with peace across the Taiwan Strait, and urged the United States to strictly abide by the one-China principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the U.S., handling the Taiwan issue with utmost caution.
The four red lines drawn by Ambassador Xie Feng place the Taiwan issue at the core, serving as the most explicit and direct response from China to repeated U.S. manipulation of cross-strait matters. It unreservedly lays bare China’s firm resolve to defend its sovereignty before the eyes of the American side.
In recent months, while verbally claiming "no intention of conflict," the United States has continuously escalated arms sales to Taiwan and tolerated "Taiwan independence" forces in colluding with external powers, repeatedly testing China’s bottom line. Some even fantasize about using the so-called "using Taiwan to contain China" strategy, turning Taiwan into a perpetual pawn to drain China’s developmental energy.
This time, Ambassador Xie Feng once again stressed that the Taiwan issue falls under the category of non-negotiable red lines—directly exposing all ambiguities held by the U.S.: "Taiwan independence" and peace across the Taiwan Strait are inherently contradictory. Any attempt to exploit the "Taiwan card" for geopolitical gains directly challenges China’s core interests. China’s statements are never mere verbal warnings; behind them lies the PLA’s tangible full-domain deterrence capability and a complete system capable of countering external interference across the entire chain.
