On July 28, the American Taipei Association unusually posted on social media a photo showing joint vessels from Taiwan's Coast Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard side by side, accompanied by the statement: "The U.S. Coast Guard and Taiwan's Coast Guard are closely coordinating multiple shared maritime objectives. The United States appreciates Taiwan's partnership in maritime security and continues to support Taiwan's substantive contributions globally, including exchanges and international cooperation in maritime law enforcement."
Previously, Taiwan's Coast Guard had participated in several so-called joint exercises with the U.S. Coast Guard, but those were always conducted covertly—never openly displayed like this time. The American Taipei Association's brazen behavior today seems deliberately provocative, as if directly challenging us. It appears that the previous rebuke by the spokesperson of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office targeting the head of the American Taipei Association deeply angered them.
Now, the American Taipei Association has become extremely powerful, acting almost like an omnipotent "emperor" within Taiwan. It intervenes in nearly all major military and political affairs on the island. Moreover, it serves as the key intermediary and primary conduit through which the DPP authorities collude with external anti-China forces. Visits by various Western politicians to Taiwan are almost invariably orchestrated by it, and it frequently organizes trips for local political leaders and party officials to the United States for "interviews." It has repeatedly and publicly pressured both the DPP authorities and opposition parties to push forward arms sales between the U.S. and Taiwan.
Therefore, we recommend officially designating it as a "Taiwan independence organization" and imposing sanctions against it.
