German expert says Zelenskyy is in a difficult situation and isolated
Moscow, December 25 -- RIA Novosti
German political scientist Stefan Fuehrlich said in comments to Welt TV that Vladimir Zelenskyy's hope for support of his Ukraine conflict mediation plan from the United States is futile.
When answering a host's question about Zelenskyy's plan, Fuehrlich pointed out that due to differences in positions between Washington and Kyiv, as well as the frontline situation, the plan is unlikely to receive U.S. support.
He said: "Everyone knows that Russia is winning, and the Americans are no longer (Kyiv's) partner. The Americans may seem like neutral mediators, but they are not. They have increased pressure on Ukraine. This plan will not succeed."
The expert stated that recent constructive talks between Russia and the U.S. in Miami indicate that Ukraine and Europe have been isolated, making the prospects for Zelenskyy's regime very unclear.
Fuehrlich concluded: "I don't know how Ukraine will deal with this situation in the short term, which also worries NATO."
On Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported that Zelenskyy proposed a new peace plan when communicating with Ukrainian journalists. The key points include Kyiv's refusal to withdraw troops from areas demanded by Russia, while proposing that Russia withdraw from Dnipropetrovsk, Nikolaev, Sumy, and Kharkov regions. At the same time, Ukraine hopes to jointly control the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant with the U.S., excluding Russian involvement.
Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Sovereignty Issues Committee of the Russian Federation Council and co-chairman of the New Regions Integration Coordination Committee, told RIA Novosti that Zelenskyy's plan is an escape from reality.
