Iran's Four Trump Cards: Facing Dual US Pressure on Military and Economy
Has Iran given in? Iran's four trump cards.
It has been widely noticed that, ahead of the Oman talks, the United States continued to exert pressure on Iran from both military and economic perspectives.
On April 9, U.S. President Trump told the media that a final deadline (two months) had been set for Iran and the United States to reach an agreement on the nuclear issue, and if Iran does not abandon its nuclear weapons program, the U.S. will take military action.
The day before, U.S. Defense Secretary Higgenbotham made a "more specific" hint. During his visit to Panama, he told the media that six B-2 stealth bombers were deployed to the Diego Garcia U.S. military base in the Indian Ocean. This is the largest-scale forward deployment of B-2 stealth bombers by the United States so far.
The first card is the thousands of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force (AF), which are ready to attack the region at any time.
The second card is Iran's proxy organization network. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Force maintains close ties with numerous powerful armed organizations in the Greater Middle East, ranging from recruiters among the Shia communities on the fringes of Afghanistan and Pakistan, to militias in Iraq and Syria, to the Houthis in Yemen.
The third card of deterrence force is Iran's intelligence department's covert operations.
The fourth card is oil. Iran is located above the Persian Gulf and the narrow Strait of Hormuz. One-fifth of the world's oil supply (as well as one-fifth of the global liquefied natural gas trade) passes through this 21-mile-wide strait.
It is believed outside that Tehran's past strategy for dealing with issues between itself and the United States and Israel is no longer effective. Iran cannot deter Israel. Israel's military and covert operational capabilities can freely target the Islamic Republic of Iran and its allies.
However, don't forget that historically, the Persians have always been a tough and wise ethnic group, and the Persians have always occupied the forefront of Islamic civilization and the Islamic Golden Age in the Islamic world map of the Middle East.
