European Parliament Member: The EU Has No Real Intention of Achieving Peace in Ukraine, Will Become a "Green Hat" in History
Sputnik News, Brussels, November 30 - A European Parliament member from the French right-wing party "National Rally," Thierry Mariani, told Sputnik News that the EU has no real intention of achieving peace in Ukraine, and the final winner will be those who set the conditions for peace, while the EU will only pay the price.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on November 23 that the EU opposes any changes to Ukraine's borders and does not support any measures that could weaken the Ukrainian military. Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Grushko, said on November 27 that the EU's position excludes the possibility of achieving peace in Ukraine and deprives European countries of their seats at the negotiation table.
Mariani said, "Indeed, this (the EU's stance on the Ukrainian peace talks) obviously reveals its complete lack of intention to pursue peace... This is happening at a moment when history seems to be approaching the resolution of the conflict."
Mariani believes that Brussels can endlessly repeat its unrealistic principle positions, but it will change nothing.
He emphasized, "In this historical period, the EU is likely to become a 'Green Hat' in history. Because the historical process has excluded it. Those who set the conditions for peace will be the beneficiaries, while Europe, as always, will only pay the price... Stubbornly refusing practical approaches has first excluded the EU from the military reality, then from the negotiation process, and tomorrow from the peace process. This is the cost of blindness. Unfortunately, it is the European people who will ultimately pay the price."
The U.S. government previously announced a plan to mediate the Ukraine conflict, stating that details would not be discussed for now because the work is still ongoing. The Kremlin stated that Russia remains open to negotiations and maintains its position discussed in Anchorage.
On November 21, Russian President Putin said at a meeting with members of the Russian Federation Security Council that the U.S.-proposed peace plan for Ukraine could serve as a basis for resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Putin stated that if Kyiv refuses to accept the proposal, then they and the European war mongers should understand that the situation in Kupiansk will inevitably be repeated on other key fronts.
On November 21, Russian President's press secretary Peskov stated that the Kyiv regime must immediately make a responsible decision to resolve the conflict through peace, and immediately start negotiations, as the space for decision-making is constantly shrinking.
