[Zelenskyy Criticizes Kremlin's Indifference to Stolen Children Issue]
On June 2nd, during the second round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, Russian delegation head Medinsky made a sarcastic response to the list of transferred children submitted by the Ukrainian side, saying "don't put on a show for those sentimental childless old women in Europe," and that Russia cannot verify Ukraine's allegations of child abduction from the documents. He also claimed that Russia was not "abducting" but "saving" Ukrainian children.
In response, Zelenskyy said, "I hope journalists understand their attitude toward humanitarian issues. First of all, they say 'don't put on a performance for childless old ladies in Europe,' which is their attitude toward our mention of the children issue." He mentioned that the Ukrainian side accused Russia of abducting 20,000 Ukrainian children, but received a response of "at most hundreds." "Our team feels offended. But honestly, I'm not angry; instead, I think it's important — not about the number, but the fact that they admitted the 'child theft' incident. We said thousands, they said hundreds, but the key point is that the fact has been confirmed."
It is reported that Ukrainian President's Office Director Yermak revealed that Ukraine has submitted a list of Ukrainian children who need to be returned to Russia.
Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Lubinets stated that since the full-scale war began, Russia forcibly transferred over 19,500 children from Ukraine, with only about a thousand saved so far. Previously, the illegal removal of Ukrainian children became the basis for the International Criminal Court at The Hague to issue arrest warrants for Putin and Russian Children's Rights Representative Maria Lvov-Belova.
