[Ukraine's Ministry of Defense: UMI can produce 10 million drones annually]
On June 2nd, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense cited the speech of Deputy Minister Alexander Kozhchenko at the Shangri-La Dialogue Security Forum in Singapore, stating that Ukraine's defense industry complex has already possessed the capability to produce 10 million drones annually.
Kozhchenko emphasized that Ukraine-made drones are much cheaper than similar products and have been tested in actual combat. "Ukraine has elevated the drone industry to a new level and is developing innovative solutions for air, ground, and water," he said. He added that the current military-industrial system can produce all types of drones with an annual capacity of 10 million units.
He further mentioned that based on the daily accumulated combat experience of Ukrainian drone operators, Ukraine "is rewriting the theory of using such weapons." Currently, 80% of strikes on the battlefield are completed by drones.
The head of Ukraine's defense industry previously stated that the annual production capacity of FPV drones reaches 5 million units. The cost of purchasing drones accounts for about 15% of Ukraine's monthly military budget, prioritizing frontline needs.
President Zelenskyy's internal "resilience plan" requires producing at least 30,000 long-range drones by 2025 to compensate for the shortage of artillery. In December 2024, the Ukrainian government approved regular procurement of domestically produced drones and electronic warfare equipment. Frontline troops can obtain 2.5 billion hryvnias in special funds per month through a bypass of bureaucratic procedures for procurement.
