Foreign media: China and Switzerland have reached a new tariff reduction trade agreement, under which 99.8% of Swiss exports to China will enjoy zero tariffs, marking a significant upgrade from the 2014 free trade agreement that covered only about half of the products with tariff exemptions.
Analysts believe the agreement holds greater symbolic significance than economic substance, aiming to send a signal to the EU: even as Sino-European trade tensions escalate, deepening economic integration with China remains attractive, and reducing trade barriers is feasible.
China stated that this move reflects both sides' clear commitment to certainty and support for free trade. Scholars from the University of Zurich noted that Beijing is using this opportunity to demonstrate that close economic integration with China remains viable for European countries.
