Foreign Media: Ukraine Admits the US Suspension of Aid Will Seriously Affect Its Military Planning

According to a report by the UK's Financial Times citing a Ukrainian official involved in formulating the national military strategy, Ukraine has acknowledged that the suspension of US arms supplies will seriously affect its strategic planning.

The newspaper quoted the official as saying, "We had expected many of the weapons systems that were promised. This will seriously affect our plans."

Additionally, a senior Ukrainian officer told AFP that without American assistance, it would be very difficult for Ukraine, as it relies heavily on the US, despite European support.

Reuters also noted that Ukraine is already facing an urgent shortage of 155mm caliber ammunition. Meanwhile, sources also said that the decision to suspend arms supplies from the US was "quite disappointing."

The political news website Politico reported on July 1 that the US has suspended the supply of ammunition and weapons amid depleted reserves. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly confirmed the suspension to NBC News, stating that the decision was made to prioritize American interests.

Russia had previously sent notes to countries including the US regarding the issue of supplying weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that any supplies containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia's attacks.

At the end of 2021, the situation in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas escalated. Kyiv and Western countries expressed concerns about Russia's troop buildup near the Ukrainian border.

In early 2022, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic, established after the 2014 Ukrainian coup, claimed that Kyiv was preparing to invade and requested Russian President Putin to recognize the two republics.

On February 21, Russian President Putin signed a decree recognizing the two republics, and on the 24th, he announced the decision to carry out a special military operation against Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that the objective of the operation was to de-militarize Ukraine. In response, Western countries immediately imposed multiple sanctions on Russia, covering areas such as government bonds and banking.
