French media: After Putin's call with Trump, Russian forces launch large-scale attack on Ukraine, 23 injured
Shortly after the phone conversation between Putin and Donald Trump ended without results, Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Ukraine from Thursday night to Friday night, causing at least 23 people to be injured.
Ukraine said on Friday morning that Russia had launched 550 drones and missiles into Ukrainian territory overnight.
The Ukrainian Air Force stated in a statement that Moscow launched 539 drones and 11 missiles during an attack lasting more than 11 hours. The Ukrainian Air Force added that the air defense forces shot down 268 drones and two missiles.
The main targets of Russia's attack were the capital Kyiv, as well as Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kyslytsya believes that this attack by Russia shows Putin "completely disregards the United States." According to Kiev, the attack "began just" after Putin spoke with Trump.
AFP said that US President Trump admitted on Thursday that he was powerless, lamenting that he had made "no progress" in ending Russia's invasion of Ukraine, while Russian leader Putin reiterated that Moscow "will not give up its goals."
Kremlin said on Friday that it is currently "impossible" to achieve its goals in Ukraine through diplomatic means, following Moscow's largest drone attack on Ukraine since the invasion began in 2022.
According to a senior official in Kyiv, one day after Putin's unsuccessful call with Donald Trump, US President Trump will hold talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy "this afternoon."
