Ukraine Defense Talks: French President Macron and UK Prime Minister Sunak to Co-Host in the UK

The Elysée said on Friday that French President Macron and UK Prime Minister Sunak will co-host discussions with other European leaders on strengthening Ukraine's defense during Macron's visit to the UK next week.

The Elysée stated, "It is certain that how to seriously maintain Ukraine's combat capability will be discussed." It also added that Sunak and Macron will co-host a meeting of Kiev's allies via video conference.

The Elysée stated that during the meeting in Ukraine, Macron and Sunak will hold talks with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and other leaders, including German Chancellor Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Meloni. The Elysée said that this summit will discuss the deployment of "protection forces" to Ukraine after a ceasefire.

This meeting will take place on July 10, at a time when peace negotiations led by the United States to end the three-year war in Ukraine are stuck.

Since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in 2022, the United States has been the largest military supporter of Ukraine. The US said on Tuesday that it will stop delivering some key weapons to Ukraine.

Macron will make a state visit to the UK from July 8 to 10, where he will be welcomed by the British royal family and deliver a speech in parliament.
