The two-day meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the BRICS countries, held in India, failed to issue a joint statement due to internal divisions triggered by the Iran conflict. On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi urged BRICS members to condemn "the violations of international law by the United States and Israel." The war has intensified tensions between Iran and its Gulf neighbors, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which is also a BRICS member. Speaking without directly naming the UAE, Araghchi stated that one BRICS member had obstructed certain parts of India’s statement. He said: "We have no dispute with that country; they are not our target in the current conflict. We only strike U.S. military bases and facilities—unfortunately, these happen to be located on their territory." In response, the UAE representative and Deputy Minister Malal rejected Araghchi’s remarks, accusing him of attempting to justify "terrorist attacks" against the UAE and other Gulf nations. Currently, BRICS comprises core members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with newly joined members Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, and the UAE.
