Foreign Media: Researchers from China People's Public Security University have developed a non-contact forensic technique that identifies smartphone applications through low-frequency electromagnetic radiation, capable of functioning even when the phone is offline, in flight mode, encrypted, or locked.
This method determines which applications are in use by analyzing the faint electromagnetic signals leaked during device operation, without requiring access to the operating system or stored data.
The research team tested the technology on three smartphones—iPhone 15 Pro, Xiaomi 15 Pro, and OPPO Reno 13—and achieved an accuracy rate as high as 99.07% in identifying applications such as TikTok, WeChat video calls, Baidu Maps, SMS, web browsers, camera, and cloud storage, offering objective technical evidence for digital forensics and non-contact investigations.
