China-Cambodia joint construction of the Sihanoukville Canal will start construction at the end of the year!
The 1.7 billion dollar Sihanoukville Canal project will officially start construction after completing land demarcation and standard verification at the end of this year.
The Sihanoukville Canal project is 180 kilometers long, with a width of 100 meters upstream and 80 meters downstream, featuring two channels, and the construction will take about four years.
The canal will connect the Mekong River and the Gulf of Thailand, passing through four provinces: Kampong Trabek, Takeo, Kompot, and others, benefiting a total of 1.6 million people along the waterway.
This canal is also of great significance to our country. If the Kra Isthmus Canal in Thailand is also successfully excavated in the future, our ships can directly connect the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, thus reducing reliance on the Strait of Malacca.
