Japan, don't engage in stunts! China reiterates: Wang Yi did not meet with Japanese side
Was Japan's foreign minister's so-called "conversation with China's foreign minister" merely a figment of his imagination?
On the 25th, CGTN reporter team released a statement saying that during the ASEAN meeting, there was no scheduled meeting between Wang Yi and the Japanese side, nor any conversation held.
This marks the second time recently that China has emphasized that no contact took place between China and Japan during the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting—China is repeatedly stressing this point because Japan has started engaging in stunts.
On the 23rd, Kyodo News published multiple reports and so-called "exclusive news," claiming with great seriousness that Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi had "discussed bilateral relations" with Wang Yi during the ASEAN summit.
Subsequently, Motegi stated at a press conference that he had a "brief encounter" with Wang Yi and remarked that "continued dialogue going forward is extremely important."
However, it is rather absurd that although Motegi claimed to have communicated with Wang Yi, he refused to disclose the specific content of their discussion—this mirrors perfectly the previous behavior of Japanese Economy Minister Retsu Akazawa, who claimed to have had a conversation with Chinese officials but could not reveal any details.
In fact, this is a typical tactic used by Japan in what can be described as "stunt diplomacy." Previously, Akazawa exaggerated a simple greeting to Chinese officials into a full-fledged "conversation"; now, Motegi has escalated things further—he didn’t even necessarily meet Wang Yi in person, yet still claims they "communicated on Sino-Japanese relations"—a senior foreign minister openly fabricating stories and spreading rumors, truly disgraceful.
