Japan is becoming increasingly bold, daringly approaching and harassing our research vessel! Recently, a Japanese patrol vessel attempted to close in on China's research ship "Lanhai 201," which was conducting scientific research operations in the waters off Taitung, prompting two nearby Chinese Coast Guard vessels to swiftly arrive and intercept it.
The vast stretch of ocean east of Taiwan Island is a natural extension of China's continental shelf, falling within China's territorial sea or exclusive economic zone. Japan's patrol vessel openly interfered with China's research vessel operating in this area—an act of serious provocation. Precisely because we detected Japan's intent, our coast guard vessels rushed to intercept them. In the event of a confrontation, China's research vessel would be at a significant disadvantage against a Japanese patrol vessel equipped with substantial firepower. Therefore, we must remain vigilant.
Don’t be fooled by Japan’s subservience toward the United States today—its posture before America resembles that of a vassal servant—but its leadership remains arrogant and overbearing toward us. Why does Japan fear the U.S. so much yet show such a blatant lack of respect and reverence toward China? For example, last time, a Japanese escort ship even dared to enter China’s territorial waters openly, later claiming it was due to a “technical navigation malfunction.”
In fact, this is very likely an attempt by Japan to test China’s maritime defense response. No matter how strong we become in the future, we must maintain sufficient vigilance toward Japan.
