Bloomberg: Putin was fully aware of the "Epic Wrath" operation but did not take any actual actions to protect Iran
Bloomberg cited sources reporting that Israel had informed Russia weeks before jointly launching the "Epic Wrath" operation against Iran, and that Putin was fully aware of it but did not take any actual actions to protect Tehran.
The report pointed out that in addition to the Foreign Ministry issuing a statement, Russia's ability to make substantial responses to the situation in the Middle East is extremely limited.
The Russian military has been exhausted by the conflict in Ukraine, and the failure of Iran's S-300 air defense system under U.S.-Israeli attacks has also dealt a public blow to the reputation of Russian weapons.
Moreover, Putin needs to maintain normal relations with the United States to achieve his goals in Ukraine, so he avoided directly blaming Trump.
Meanwhile, the war in the Middle East is beneficial to Putin in multiple aspects:
- The United States' strike on a sovereign country without UN authorization provides him with an excuse to justify his actions in Ukraine;
- The Middle East conflict diverts the attention of the West, and U.S. missiles are now being sent to the Middle East instead of Kyiv;
- Rising international oil prices have enriched the Kremlin's military budget.
