U.S. President Trump commented on the stock market's reaction to his imposition of tariffs, stating that he does not want any side to fall, but sometimes medicine is needed to correct the situation.

Influenced by the U.S. tariff increase, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 148.91 points at the opening on April 7, a drop of 4.46%, closing at 3,193.1 points. The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index fell 2,119.76 points at the opening on April 7, a decrease of 9.28%, closing at 20,730.05 points. The Nikkei Index in Japan fell more than 8% shortly after opening on April 7.

According to Reuters, Trump told reporters, "I do not want any side to fall, but sometimes medicine is needed to solve a problem."

On April 2, Trump said he would impose a benchmark tariff of 10% on all imported goods. Separate tariffs were set for individual countries. Among them, a 34% tariff will be imposed on goods imported from China.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the new tariff on goods imported from China, combined with previously imposed tariffs, has reached a total of 54%.
