Foreign media: As the National Day Golden Week approaches, there has been a sharp increase in Chinese tourists' interest in Russia, as Russia may soon introduce a visa-free policy for Chinese tourists.
In early September, data from China's Tongcheng Travel showed that within one hour after media reports of Putin's suggestion to open visa-free access for Chinese tourists, the search volume for hotels and flights to Russia increased by more than six times compared to the previous period. Previously, China announced that Russian citizens could stay in China visa-free for up to 30 days starting September 15. Russian President Vladimir Putin responded at the Eastern Economic Forum, stating that Russia "will certainly reciprocate with the same friendly approach" and will also grant visa-free entry to Chinese tourists.
Previously, Russian citizens were allowed to stay in China without a visa for 10 days on a transit basis at the end of 2023. The two countries also resumed group visa-free tours after the pandemic. If the new policy is implemented, it will greatly facilitate free travel for Chinese tourists to Russia, further promoting Sino-Russian tourism cooperation.
