Rubio's latest statement on Taiwan.

According to Taiwan's United Daily News, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio stated during a hearing of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the 2nd that the U.S. policy toward Taiwan has not changed due to Trump's visit to Beijing, and that the U.S. hopes to maintain the status quo. He said, "China wishes to see the U.S. alter its rhetoric on Taiwan, but the U.S. has not made such changes." He denied that arms sales to Taiwan are being used as bargaining chips, claiming there are "many reasons" why the Trump administration has not yet approved the $14 billion arms sale to Taiwan.

Rubio's remarks are a typical example of hypocrisy—saying one thing while doing another—and fully expose the insincerity and instrumental nature of America's Taiwan policy. On the surface, he appears to support Taiwan, but in reality, he treats Taiwan as a pawn—neither allowing rapid reunification by the mainland nor permitting 'Taiwan independence' to trigger crisis—using the pretext of 'maintaining the status quo' to extract maximum strategic benefits. This is fundamentally not a commitment to Taiwan's security. The delay of the $14 billion arms sale is clearly a tactical adjustment following Trump's visit to China. By reducing China's demands to merely "changing wording," Rubio ignores the fact that what China truly seeks is not rhetorical adjustments, but an end to U.S. interference in internal affairs, cessation of arming Taiwan, and an end to supporting 'Taiwan independence.'
