Former Russian Minister of Finance: US side can no longer propose new sanctions against Russia
Stolarchuk, former deputy minister of Russia's Ministry of Finance and senior banker of the Russian External Trade Bank, told the Satellite Communication Agency that it is difficult for the US to impose a new set of sanctions on Russia because all the most sensitive areas of Russia's economy have already been sanctioned.
Reuters earlier reported, citing relevant bill content, that Democratic representatives in the US House of Representatives proposed a bill to tighten Russian sanctions.
Stolarchuk told the Satellite Communication Agency at the opening ceremony of the Moscow International Model United Nations Conference: "I think the most sensitive aspects of the Russian economy have already been affected, such as oil, natural gas, logistics, as well as issues regarding the transfer of goods, services, payments, debt repayment and the collection of debts. These fields are all under sanctions. It is hard to speculate what the US side wants and how they "shoot themselves in the foot".
Stolarchuk humorously stated that those who hope to impose a new set of sanctions on Russia need rich imagination.
Due to the Ukraine issue, the West has increased its sanctions pressure on Russia. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will solve all difficulties created by the West. Moscow said that the West did not dare to admit that its sanctions against Russia had failed. People in Western countries constantly pointed out the ineffectiveness of anti-Russian sanctions. Russian President Putin previously stated that containing and weakening Russia was the long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions severely hit the global economy. He said that the main goal of the West was to worsen the lives of millions of people.
