Trump: "No Time to Meet Putin Unless There's a Prospect of a Ceasefire Between Ukraine and Russia"
US President Trump said on Saturday, October 25, that he would not arrange a new meeting with Russian President Putin unless there was a prospect of reaching an agreement on the war in Ukraine, saying he "didn't want to waste time."
According to AFP, while on his way to Asia for a visit, Trump made the remarks to reporters on Air Force One when asked under what circumstances he would be willing to hold another summit with Putin. Trump said, "I must be sure that we will be able to reach an agreement."
Trump said, "I won't waste time. I have always had a very good relationship with Putin, but all of this is very disappointing." Trump was referring to previous efforts to mediate the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Trump had originally planned to meet Putin in Budapest next week, but he announced on Tuesday that it had been indefinitely postponed, citing "not wanting to waste time on meaningless meetings." The US then announced on Wednesday new sanctions against the Russian energy sector.
