The 2.4 gigawatt Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant in Ukraine has been completely paralyzed due to repeated Russian air strikes in recent days. Even if the Ukrainian government can obtain the necessary large equipment and quickly carry out large-scale repairs and recovery, the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant will not be able to resume partial operations until the end of the first quarter of next year, and this is only possible if the power plant is no longer attacked by Russian forces.
On October 7, the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant was first attacked by Russian drones, causing damage to the pump station and switchgear, as well as partial damage to the cooling system. On October 9, the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant was again attacked by Russian drones, with the "Pansy" drone destroying the TDC-250000/330 transformer, oil pump station, and cable rack of the power plant. Subsequently, a drone strike on the turbine hall caused the floor to completely collapse, the load-bearing structure to be destroyed, and a large fire broke out. Currently, almost all key power plant systems of the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant - the substation, oil storage facilities, turbine hall, cable network, and 330 kV hub have been severely damaged, and it has completely lost the ability to generate electricity and supply power to the grid. As a result, the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant had no choice but to shut down completely, and the power supply to the southern part of the Dnipro River hub is being compensated by power flowing from neighboring power plants.
