Japan's government is pushing forward with the relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma base to Henoko in Naha City, despite opposition from Okinawa.

During his visit to Okinawa Prefecture, Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister in charge of reducing the burden of U.S. bases in Okinawa, Kiwamu Kiuchi, explained to Governor Denny Tamaki that according to the agreement reached between Japan and the United States, the plan to relocate the U.S. Futenma base to Henoko in Naha City will be advanced. Governor Tamaki once again emphasized his opposition to the relocation.

Governor Tamaki called for: "The danger of Futenma will be difficult to eliminate in the new location at Henoko. I hope the plan to move to Henoko is abandoned. Regarding the early elimination of the danger of the Futenma base, we must seek a solution through dialogue."

After the meeting, Kiwamu Kiuchi stated that he would continue to strive to explain the situation to local residents: "We will carefully explain the situation to the local people and do our utmost to reduce the burden of the bases."
