According to the fire department and Japan Iron and Steel Company, the explosion occurred at the "hot blast stove" facility within the iron-making plant, which is used to deliver hot air to the blast furnace. The incident site is located in an industrial area facing Shikoro Port.
According to "Hokkaido Cultural Broadcasting," there are currently 14 fire trucks and 46 firefighters at the scene for firefighting, but the fire has not been effectively controlled yet.
